Why is he referred to as African American when he is of mixed origins?
Because anything less than pure white is colored.
he looks dark enough to be considered black.. and if he isn't, then something is wrong with your television set.

people here still ascribe to the whole "one drop rule" thing. that means even if you have the smallest amount of black in you, you're black.
it's residual concept and mindset.
didn't you read my last post?? just adjust your tv monitor.
raverboy
He looks black, so that's what he is labelled.
If he looked white, they'd be calling him white.
Anyway, who cares?
i care a lot.

i'm yellow but no one ever tells me that.

Black, white, brown or yellow, it's all the same.
If you want to classify Barack Obama, he's an American. That's it. I'm sick of this stupid division. Multiculturalism is great in small doses, but the reality is we're supposed to be a united people. Not a whole bunch of groups and subgroups divided by the shallowest of differences.
I'm an American. Not latin American, not hispanic, not white, not any of that shit. American.
the sarcasm was not needed... i am very disappointed in you..i'm telling on you.Quote:

People just really want to think they're being progressive and voting in a black president.
I'm going to vote for Obama just because I don't want McCain to win.Quote:

Exactly, Lesa. I'm in a blue state. Which is fine, but meh, I want to feel like I'm making history!
Ahh.
If only I could!
Either way, we are ****ed this election
I really, really like some things about each candidate but HATE them in other ways
We've been ****ed in past elections, too.
Everything went downhill since women and minorities got a voice in government
I just lost some respect for you.Quote:

Please don't think like that when you have a wife and kids. You are too cool to think like that.
I'm just trying to be objective. Which, trust me, is very hard to do on a college campus that is flaming liberal
I wasn't being serious in that comment, just trying to stir the hornets nest a little because I am getting sick of this political correctness bullshit and the witch hunt for so-called "racists"
If I ever so much as pointed out that around 95% of Nobel prize winners in the sciences were male and around 90% were white males, I would be deemed a racist. If people are going to equate racism with factual correctness then hell yes, I'm racist
I have no issue with being objective and pointing out the facts...that's not racist or sexist. Your % are most likely correct and could not possibly be viewed as racism or sexism. What makes a person racist or sexist depends on the point they are trying to say, how they say it, and how they truly feel about others.Quote:

It's the fact that you're generalizing. I wouldn't care if 99% of Nobel prize winners were white men. By generalizing, you're taking away from any minorities or women that would actually do good.Quote:

That doesn't sound too objective (in bold).Quote:

See how it gives the vibe?
Nope, it means they have bigger penises
But... since 90% of Nobel prize winners are white men, they're smarter?Quote:

Your logic is flawed.
Haha, no, I wasn't implying that at all, but you just made my point, which is- people are eager to assume that is the conclusion I am wanting to draw by stating a fact
However, white men do have a larger share of geniuses relative to other groups, particularly Germans. The average South Korean is smarter than the average German, for example, but they have less geniuses...
Which one would guess. I mean, white people can have brown, black, red, or blonde hair of all different textures and whatnot, and blue, green, or brown eyes, along with all shades of skin color, while Asians almost always have straight black hair and brown eyes
When you consider that white men tend to be from extremely wealthy democratic nations which have been heavily influenced by mysognistic mythology, it isn't that difficult to see why white men tend to hold the most Nobel prizes. It has little to do with race or gender and lots to do with culture.
who the hell cares what color he is just vote for him, okay?
starbuck, i'm gonna go over there and slap you if you don't vote.
In that case I'm not going to vote, either.Quote:
