Depression, dating, and dealing with rejection from guys?

I feel like an unattractive loser because at 18 I have never had a real boyfriend or been asked out. I also have had depression (right now it's very mild) since I was a child, and I'm afraid that is why guys don't seem to like me. However, I've tried everything and my depression isn't going away, so does this mean I will never have anyone? My sole relationship lasted one week after I told a guy I liked him-- he asked me out and then broke up with me a week later, but I stopped liking him as soon as he asked me out anyway-- what's wrong with me??. I liked my best friend, only to find out he is dating someone else who is much prettier/happier/more perfect than I. Whenever I see them together I feel awful, but guilty for not being happy for them. I am actually quite bubbly and appear happy on the surface, and I am not socially awkward and have plenty of friends. I am actually quite popular, and I'm a nice person. I'm neither ugly nor beautiful; I'm average. Is there anything I can do to get a boyfriend or do you have any kind words that would put my life into perspective? Finally, I asked this guy out recently but I don't know how to clarify that I want it to be a date and not just a hangout between friends. Do you have any advice on how to do that without being too awkward?

Anyways OP you are too up tight, and over analyze everything. What attracts guys is being warm and friendly. You need to be open, relaxed, greet him with a warm smile. Life is too short to be a pessimist.

To be positive in life is to love yourself, accept things that you cannot change and don't sweat over the small stuff.

Surround yourself with new, fresh, inspiring people, do things out of your comfort zone, explore new interests, get active in your community with charities (feel good stuff), and before you know it you have pulled your head out of your ass, and actually have some substance and something to offer as a human being. So get off your ass, buy a new wardrobe, a makeover, and stop moping. Smile! and be happy!

I just cannot be positive that is part of my disorder... And you still did not read that article....and incase you did not know the difference between shy person and person with social anxiety, let me tell you... The difference is that shy person does not like social contacts but is still able to build them as the person woth social anxiety is actually AFRAID of people and most likely will self isolate himself just like me...and also fun fact is that social anxiety wont go away with time like shyness... Well good job... It seems that it was less harcore with you... But you must understand that even if you got better everyone else will... And i do know that if you would see mee irl you would throw up... Its sad how people really understand it only after that... I used to have couple of friends and they ALL agreed with me in everything and they were not suffering from same things as i, they always said im ugly and will die alone, and thats why they were my friends only people who knew the truth... Oh well no i got no frends expect my computer and my games, they are only ones who care about me and will never leave me...

That's what happened to my friend but he was so determined to change. He failed many times, tried to commit suicide (thank god I was able to get help to him), got horribly abused by his family, had trouble with keeping a job, got into drugs, etc. Then one day he made some changes and is now happier, has a girl that loves him unconditionally, kept up his guitar playing (which he is really good at), things are good.

As i said, in that case he is NOTHING like me! I will never be able to get rid of my broblems and its not my fault, im not only socially completely retarted im also mild alcoholic even if im only soon 17, i will be unemployed and lots of other crap, so basicly i do not even deserve to be here really, but i am and i do not know why, even my old primary school teacher told me im worthless...

+im not good at anything, jeez im even shit at gaming even if i do it like 10 hours a day...

Yes i do that alot too... Its quite funny really only relative of mine who looks like me lost another of his eyes and died because of alcohol as 30 years old... And i also got quite high risk of sharing that faith...
