Mish, there's a raging debate in the UK about whether or not burqas should be allowed in public places. I'm sure you can find PILES of journalism on it, representing both sides of the issue. What Pat Condell is so pissed off about is that lots of left-leaning people are defending extremist Islam (and I mean really extreme) in the name of religious tolerance. When religious tolerance comes into conflict with human rights, I think I've made it abundantly clear where I stand.Quote:

I have no idea who these "left-leaning people defending extremist Islam" are, can you give me some examples? For example, is a person who says people should be allowed to wear what they want defending extremist Islam?
dont agree with this dude, hijab is a good idea
Oh yeah is very good, Today I was dying wearing jeans because of the high temp, but when I saw a girl in a bus wearing burka and winter leather shoes, I felt a bit better...
Thats an excellent point, people who flee from a country should be judged by the country they risked their life fleeing from.Quote:

Your arguments are just so wise...
Again, it's not about hijab. It's about the extreme interpretation of hijab that results in women going around in burqas. Not the same thing.Quote:

They are being judged because of their culture. That's fairQuote:

How many times do I have to hear people making fun of the American south? That's tolerated everywhere
Turkey has several Christian monasteries. The house of the virgin Mary lies near Izmir.
Yeah, I was pretty ignorant about the South until I came down here.Quote:

Now I realized, if anything, the cultural differences really exist between urban/rural.
Did you read what I'm responding to or not? Because if so, I have no idea what the hell it has to do with redneck jokesQuote:

Yeah, your quote didn't seem to fit what you quoted either
It's pretty straightforward, it's ridiculous to decide your care for an immigrant based on arbitrary conditions in a nation that immigrant used to live in. Building a mosque for Muslims living in Prague is a completely separate issue from the number of churches in Kabul, and linking the two issues together to justify denying Muslim practitioners the same freedoms as others living in the Czech republic is ridiculous.
Because in conrary to other islamic countries, Turkey was originally chrisitian :)Quote:
