Age old question....
I'm sure that many people have asked similar questions, but here goes. You meet someone on-line. The conversations are pretty good, but they send you a photo and they weren't exactly honest with their description. I know that looks aren't everything, but I feel that the "physical attraction" really needs to be there for anything to develope. How do you tactfully let the person know that you aren't interested? Is it better to be a "jerk" and ignore them? Or just tell them that you're not interested? (not always easy to do)
While Ignoring them may seem rude, it may prevent damaging their ego. Any opinions are welcome.

Tell them honestly. Ignoring them only does three things:
1) delaying the inevitable
2) giving false hope
3) preventing him from moving on
If person A ignores person B, then if person B is not an asshole, then he will not just move on like that. There MUST be closure, in order to avoid all confusion. It will hurt him more, and yes, it will damage his ego, but on the other hand, he will get over it faster too.

Put yourself in their shoes.
i would prefer being told that i ain't wanted, then to be ignored and thinking whether the other party is deliberately ignoring me or just gone for a piss.
as the old saying goes,
honesty is the best policy
tell them straight in the face
if they've gotta cry, so be it
