If you and you SO are from different religions, what religion would you raise your child with? I've been curious about this for a while. Both me and my SO are atheists, so we dont have to worry about teaching religion. But I've seen friends that were atheist marry Christians, and have always wondered how that would work.

Do you think being a different religion would be a deal breaker for you? Why or why not?

I think the religion thing can be trickier than we might think (as Agnostics, Atheists etc.) It might be one of the reasons people tend to stick to their own religion. For example, my friend married a man from Israel and converted to Judaism, which is common. I wouldn't like that; for a start, it's converting for the sake of marrying someone so in that sense, it's forced and not genuine. Secondly, it's pretty much saying one religion trumps another (she was Catholic previously). Her son will be raised in the Judaic faith, there was never any question. Obviously it's her choice and she was willing so that's fine - but it'd be trickier for someone like me, for example - I wouldn't convert no matter what although I would be happy for my partner to practice his religion (so long as it wasn't forced upon me or our children - at least until they were old enough to decide for themselves). I'm happy to learn and participate in religious events - no issue. But I'm never going to believe 100%.
