One principle brough out by all of this is actually hitting home with me. There have been a few cases lately where I read through a thread and I am interested in what's going on in it, but find it has been closed by the time I get there. Whether i'm interested in the initial topic or the inevitable tangents.

It used to be it was okay for the original topic to be ignored for pages at a time on a thread, so it hardly seems like a reason to close a thread. Also people used to be way more offensive and that wouldn't be grounds for dismissal either.

Like we all know, we all have opinions and our own philosophies about the way things should be run. Obviously only the moderators have the power to impose their own philosophies as to what is acceptable and what is against the rules. Who knows, maybe they have a strict set of rules to follow, but I can see that there is a lot of freedom as to interpretation because we have mods like Illusional who will pretty much let anything go, and Cybog at the other extreme closing more threads in one week than Illusional does in a year.

I see your point, Lloyd, you hope this to be a much free'er forum where people can say whatever they want and if feelings get hurt, we deal with it amongst ourselves before we call in the law. I would wish for something like that too. It's easy enough for me to ignore any comment I don't care to argue with..or if I choose, to argue against it..and I see that you were fustrated that you couldn't continue an argument on that same thread. It seems, though, that your major source of fustration was the threat of being banned you received. If things remain as I have seen in my history in this place, rest easy, not even a moderator can ban you..they can only ask the administrator to ban you and then you're gone, so Frasbee not being a moderator can't really get you banned. And from what I've read of your posts you have done nothing that would get you banned.

I'm pretty sure you can continue posting as you have and not fear being banned.
