About a yr ago i met a girl at school and we became really close, and it sort of became pretty clear that she liked me more than a friend. All her friends (who I know) would always talk about it etc, but the problem was that she was Indian and a strict Hindu, with traditional Hindu parents.

Everytime me and this girl got quite close (e.g texting a lot or just spending free time together) it seemed she would regret it and act as if she'd done something wrong the next day and ignore me. At first I thought it racist of me to presume that just because she was a Hindu and I'm white, it would never happen between us, but by the end of sixth form i resigned myself to the fact that religion was why we had such a stop/start relationship.

I never told her how I felt, firstly becasue it may put her in a bad position and secondly becasue she is one of my best friends and I don't want to lose her. We're both at different unis now, but out of everything, I miss her the most and feel the only way to get any closure on this is to talk to her. I just wanna know what Hinduism teaches and whether this was the barrier, and also whether I should talk to her about it. Any advice appreciated!

Sounds like she noticed the fact you like her and became scared which explains why it was off and on type of relationship. I would definitely talk to her about it and if nothing else, maybe you can just stay friends.

It might not be a religious problem, but a racial one. You will have to talk to her to find out....
