Nothing too shocking or new arty, it's just plain ignorance.
Did you live a sheltered life or something?

Arty - I think the root of the problem lies in the fact that these people compete for employment against each other, and the competition fuels their hatred. That would also explain why people become less racist the higher up the socioeconomic ladder they rise.
its because they have nothing else to do in their crappy islands . no , just kiddingOriginally Posted by artyemi
its like ppl from el Salvador hate ppl from Guatemala ( my country) and vice versa , but we live next to each other , yet we are very different , even in the way we speak , and us to ( Guatemala) hate Mexicans in general . i personaly dont but ppl in my country do sometimes , i guess its because Mexico "stole" a part of our country , in our country we have the ruins of Tikal , the mayan ruins , and in mexico , they were the Aztec , but now mexico has a part of the Mayan ruins , wich originally doesnt belong to them .
see Aztec and Mayans were rivals , thats before America and all that bs slavery .
Aztecs = Mexican descendants
Mayans = Guatemala , El Salvador , Honduras and lots of other countries descendants
Incas = Peru and other countrys
and in between there were little tribes , like Colombians were Cannibals...
so much for la raza cosmica.
Now my Puerto Rican friend is from a pretty well to do family in Puerto Rico. To drill further down, she's half Spanish and half Puerto Rican. Her father is from Spain, and moved to Puerto Rico. She came here to attend a prestigious university, has received her undergarduate degree in Aerospace Engineering.Originally Posted by shh!
Now, being that she's actually only lived in Boston for four years and hasn't interacted with that many Puerto Ricans who are "lower" in the socioieconomic ladder or that many Mexicans in any category of the socioeconomic ladder, and the first Mexican she hated was her uncle who lives in Puerto Rico... you get?
And the worst is she acknowledges all of that information, and still continue to make the remark about hating all the Mexicans... But of course, we don't really hold it against her. I still tihnk that she still got ways to go in terms of opening up her horizon to people.

The man is British, the girl is Brazilian. The country of birth dictates the culture and the identity primarily (However it depends on how many years they lived in the country of birth - definetely true for anything over 15 years from the time of birth). Alternative identities will be the ones inherited from the most dominant parental identeties, popular culture and from personal persuasion and experience.Originally Posted by artyemi

1) By nationality he would be classed as "English". Ethcinity wise, I doubt he could call himself either chinese or cacausian because he isn't fully either thus the birth of the word "eurasian". But what are you asking? What is he to the general public? or what is he to himself? Because you'll find you'll get 2 complete different answers. Regardless he becomes an American citizen, he was born in England therefore he is English.Originally Posted by artyemi
2) Nationality "Brazillian". Ethcinity "Jap/Chin". Same thing applies.
Kiechi----1) Wouldn't you put British when filling out forms? Just a thought.
Forms here the options normally are:Originally Posted by Chlorine
British - White
British- Asian
British - Black
Bla bla bla...
But I don't see myself falling into any of those, so I tick the option "Asian mixed white".
