Sorry I just never bought into "chemicals" that make you depressed. To me it's all a mental thing. Never underestimate the power of the human mind. You mean to tell me there are pills you can take that makes you less depressed? Or is it the act of taking pills you THINK in your MIND are going to MEDICALLY help your MENTAL state of being causing you to THINK you're being treated? As in, they could replace your "chemical imbalance" pills with tylenol or vitamins without you knowing and have the same results in your psychi as the "depression pills" would.

I'm not tryin to knock you, or be an ass, I'm just telling you MY opinion.

lol No they couldn't replace it with tylenol or vitamins. It is harder for someone who has never had actual depression to understand. Getting sad over things and feeling down are not the same as depression. Even with other mental disorders, do you think they choose to be that way?

tone, maybe you just haven't seen somebody who is really depressed. i mean REALLY, TRULY sick. it is in the brain and it is chemicals. it's neuro misfire. it's like epilepsy. in fact a lot of drugs used to treat epilepsy is also used to treat depression.

Sure it is. It's the start of depression is it not? The only difference is depression = being sad longer.

While I won't argue if the pills really do anything or not, since I'm no scientist and I don't know, I will stick to my opinion that people who think they are "forced" to be depressed because of a mental condition they have - I think they could get out of it without any medication.

Do you think other mental disorders are a choice as well?

Contrar, I have seen people who are TRUELY depressed. I've seen people who have good reasons to be too. Daughter caught in the middle of a drive-by, leaving her 2 year old baby girl mother-less. People who have no jobs, no means to put food on the table, have been livin a life of crime, never had good people in their life, surrounded by bad influences and no one to believe in them.

I've seen a lot of depressed people come out of it. Why? Because they believed in something so much, the power of the human mind erased what they thought was life-long depression. All because they had a change of mind set.

Tone, it is a chemical imbalance that can cause depression; it is related to the amount of seratonin (sp?) that is released in the brain. I found this out when I went to my doctor for my OCD. they were trying to figure out if I had depression too.

This medicine that I'm on is freaky; if you stop taking it cold turkey, and can cause suicides, they say.

No, but then again it would depend what we're talking about. I'm not a doctor, but I think "other mental disorders" is a pretty broad subject.

that reminds of a line my honey baby clive said in the movie 'closer'...

Jude: everybody wants to be happy.

clive: depressives don't. they want to be unhappy to affirm the the fact that they are depressed. if they were happy they'd have to go out into the world and live, which can be depressing.

It doesn't matter if others have gone through worse things and throwing that into a depressed persons face doesn't do anything. Just because you go through crappy things in life doesn't mean you will have depression.

Well, I'd rather have my OCD than be a complete slob.

Whatever guys. You wanna get mad at me cause what I believe in, fine. You think cause "science" "prooves" depression can be caused cause of chemicals in the brain, fine. Science at one time also said the earth is flat. Wouldn't be the first time science was wrong.

There is so much unknown about the human brain and how it works, that I'm skeptical on anything they say they do have figured out. Just don't get mad at me for what I think. You guys wanna say you are depressed and have the chemical depression, fine. But how are you gonna tell me that these people I knew didn't have the EXACT same thing you claim you have? Please, I'd love to hear that one.
