You'll note I was referring primarily to martial arts. You can take all the martial arts you want and it won't do you a lick of good when you're facing a man who has made his living on the streets fighting to survive. That's the problem with martial arts. It's a wonderful philosophy and exercise. It does not, however, make you into a name-taking, ass-kicking machine as so many chumps with their fancy new blackbelts would like to believe.

Clearly you've never seen any movie with Tony Jaa. I've fought people with "street skills" and I've sparred against martial artists. With the street people we usually both end up a little bloody and it's a tie, but with the martial artists I've ended up on my ass with their foot at my neck.

Now I'm not saying some amateur karate punk can dish out any pain, I'm just saying if I had my choice I'd rather fight someone well versed in street combat instead of someone well trained in Muy Thai.
