I used to see her at parties occasionally. I was barely aware of her existence, but she'd latch onto me and talk about all kinds of bizarre nonsense. She was kind of creepy.
Anyway, I skipped school one day and decided to hang out at the mall. That's where I bumped into her. She dragged me to the food court and we ate lunch. She asked if I was a virgin. I asked right back. She said yes so I told her that I was also a virgin. Then she arched her brow and asked if I wanted to be a virgin.
After I'd finished choking on my horrid fried rice, I shook my head dumbly. She told me she didn't want to be a virgin, either, and we should do each other a favor. And that's that. I never bumped into her again. Never got her number. Never spoke to her after. I never even knew her last name.
God, so atrocious in the Old Testament, so attractive in the New--the Jekyl and Hyde of sacred romance.
-Mark Twain
If people are good only because they fear punishment and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.
