    is it better????.....

to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all???

I just read a quote that said "the only way to learn to love, is to love". But for me Its hard to love when youre scared of it. Another quote says " love is life, and to be scared of love is to be scared of life". and Wikipedia says, "According to philosophers, the only goal of life is to be happy. And there is only one happiness in life: to love and be loved."

So if its true that the only way to learn to love is to actually love then it is better to have loved and lost. Because even though losing is painful, and by opening yourself up to love you also open yourself up to pain, you have learned, if not even a little bit, about love. Thus bringing you one step closer to true happiness.

Some people such as yourself just know this and open themselves up to love without the thoughts of the consequences. These people are the ones who will be happy. They are not scared of love and therefore not scared of life.

Another quote says, "And ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation.". This one has many truths to it. It ties into the cliché that you don't know what you have until its gone. How you don't realize what you actually feel until its ripped away from you

So, yes It is better to have loved and lost without fear of the heartache it can cause than to never have loved at all. As painful as it can be, its still a learning experience.

I want happiness in life therefore I need to learn to love with all my heart without fear of consequences.

    You already understand that.

ah! you seem like the perfect candidate to answer my question in this thread here:

As for your question, to me it's self-evident that it's better to get involved than to sit on the sidelines to protect your feelings (a solitary existence can't be all that much happier than heartbreak, after all).

In fact, to me the more common mistake is for people to waste large amounts of time with someone who's quite obviously wrong for them and with who they quite obviously have no future with. That seems to me like a more serious risk than heartbreak.

Careful. While this may apply to most, you'll find a few individuals (writers, scientists, etc.) who derive/have derived happiness from their own pursuits, outside of love.

I want happiness in life therefore I need to learn to love with all my heart without fear of consequences.
Keep in mind the above. Unless love is truly your sole source of happiness, keep an even head when weighing it against the consequences of that love.

A grand pursuit can bring great pain as well as rewards. Good luck!
