    it's okay.

i've pretty much come to grips with the fact that i will always be in some varying degree of pain. i know my condition is not going away. plus i have degenerating joints, they're not going to miraculously come back.

believe me, i've also convinced myself that i'm going to die from back pain.

but i need relief. any kind. if not from the pain then at least the depression.

before i turn myself into an alcoholic.

Activity and Tylenol 3s. My dad had chronic lumbar pain.

I think the shock of car accidents are shite for spines/discs. Mine has never been the same since & I am pretty strong/active.

Physio helps to get things back in alignment I find. Cheaper than those shots, but you need someone good. Can be hard to find; ask around if you haven't yet or travel if you must.

Do you walk at least 30 min a day? Figure you do w/your dogs, but if not, do it. I've read that lumbar osteo is more rapid for women that have had chronic injury to their backs. Keep moving.

    Take it easy girl.

i'm not really into watching anyone give anyone a foot massage tiay...

and as for swimming and the wheelchair comparison, i would think that one would swim and do some sort of back strengthening exercises.

probably, I have the feeling some Physio exercise are done in water. But that wouldn't be swimming then, imo.

but as indi said, walking and keeping active is good for the back.

hey sombra-- my boyfriend went snowboarding last weekend. He really enjoyed it, too, but said it seemed a bit dangerous on the long run. I imagine its one hell of a rush, though.

Good friend of mine has severe osteo in her back. She exercises daily like religion & uses a trainer person to help her do it right.

As I understand it, the exercise should be weight bearing to help w/bone density. Pool exercises sound like they are good for those w/joint problems who need to keep the weight off them, but longterm we are animals that live outside the water, so eventually we have to transition to exercises that help w/that.

You can buy these weighted vests now that one wears & that is supposed to help with this kind of thing. The principle seems sound in theory. Don't know anything more than that tho, just an FYI.

    thanks you guys.

i actually do have joint problems, and i do have to keep weight off or the pain comes. i just don't like wearing swim suits and i don't like swimming in gyms.

one day, i'm going to have two pools in my house. one indoor, and one outdoor. one day very soon...

Have you ever been to a chiropractor?

I have a twisted vertebra in my lower back that pinches off my sciatic nerve - really fun. With a few treatments and some stretches he showed me, I recovered about 50%. I know most of the time they can't do much until your inflammation has gone down though.

yeah, the inflammation is so bad.

i've seen chiropractors, massage therapists, physical therapists, orthopedic doctors, done pills, you name it, i've done it.

i took some oxycodone tonight. it still hurts. but i feel slightly high. only slightly though damn it.

Hey, I'll always be there in pain with you. Though back injuries are almost never caused by stress. Is it the lower back? You need to see a chiropractor. I have had these really painfully stinging pains in my lower back before. If nothing is helping you need to get an X-ray done on the area that hurts.

thanks ov. i had an mri about a year ago. the joints in my lower back are deteriorating.

i think it's just really irritated right now.

that oxycodone really helped last night. the pain wasn't fully gone but i felt like i was in my right mind for a while. Or maybe not in my right mind per se but not focused on the pain and could think about other stuff.

i still feel that way today thankfully, no drugs needed.

Damn, I usually overlooked this thread but now I see you're undergoing something quite serious. You say you are 30? I'm 29 and I don't have any problem. Lucky me.

I wanted to give you two suggestions, MiSombra. The first one is to stop seeing so many specialists. You're —quite likely— just wasting money because specialists don't see the problem as a whole but in part. I'm not a doctor, but if your diagnose is "degenerative joint loss in low back, somewhat herniated disc in low back, somewhat herniated disc is lumbard", what I think you need is surgery, to have someone cure the hernia you have, which is pressing your nerve and make you feel pain.

I don't know how expensive could that be in the US, but if it's too much, package your bags and come to Peru. Here you have excellent doctors in the best private clinics for a bargain compared to what you pay over there. Medical tourism to Peru is increasing a lot lately (3 or 4 years), so think about it seriously.

Example: I've heard a dentist in the US charges up to US$3000 for an orthodontics. Here that costs less than $100... add plane tickets and you can save up to US$1000 per tooth. See? Consider it.
