Thread: Such thing as a 'Christian' Illusionist

I think this is a more realistic view Christians (and Catholics) would need to learn to have more real churches...

    If Jesus was here...

For a number of years, it’s been common to ask, “What would Jesus do?” Actually, it is an important question and one we would all do well to consider. Of course it is proper to think through these matters, for he is the one we are supposed to be following. But, if he were here in the flesh, where would we be following him?

All this is good and fine, but I’m not entirely sure that some evangelicals would be happy with the answer.

If Jesus were walking our streets . . .

+ He would be more critical of those who are theologically on target than those who are not.
+ He would attend celebrations and drinking parties.
+ He would possibly provide the beer.
+ He would drink with the rest of us.
+ He would spent a good chunk of time with those whom the religiously “pure” had no time for.
+ He would interrupt some of our religious services by making unplanned announcements and controversial statements.
+ He would tell stories that were relevant and attractive but not always immediately clear.
+ He would spend a lot more time encouraging others to follow him than he would simply providing religious facts about himself.
+ He would live courageously yet humbling.
+ He would serve those who crossed his path.
+ He would rub shoulders with the outcasts of society.
+ He would demonstrate that theology is intended to be done in public and on the streets.
+ He would go places deemed objectionable by the moral standard-bearers of society.
+ He would make people feel both comfortable and uneasy.
+ He would violate some of the rules of the religious establishment.
+ He would desire to heal and not to hurt.
+ He would be compassionate every day.
+ He would be challenged (and in some cases hated) by the experts of our day.
+ He would probably cause a lot of us to wonder if he is truly the one he claimed to be.
+ He would keep his promises.
+ He would most likely be criticized by a good percentage of the media.

A quote from a Woody Allen movie:

If Jesus came back and saw what's going on in his name, he'd never stop throwing up.

Lilwing, I'd be furious as well. I get enough proselytizing at my front door- I don't need to go out and pay for it. I wonder how many people in the audience felt the same way.

"Up yours, MCS. This guy was a killer, a gangster, a drug dealer, a rapist, what have you. He became a magician in order to 'learn' super natural powers. I was not offended until they came out and started preaching about how other religions are wrong and christianity is right and blah blah blah. Mind you, I paid $8 not knowing that this jackass was going to do this."

Your a dick. You don't think ppl can change? No you don't. If you didn't like it you could of got up and left. No doubt he was preachy, hes most likely a Protestant (idiots). And did he specifically say he became a magician to learn super natural powers.

Peoples attitudes toward christianity is ridiculous now days. If your a Muslim, jew, or any other religion your ok, but the moment someone is a christian they are closed minded...Being closed minded towards other religions and lifestyes is a common trait in religions, but its usually attached to the Christian faith.

Don't think of me as defending protestants, im not, I think they are silly, but stop lumping all christians together as idiots and bigots. Because from the tone and the way you talked about them its clear thats how you felt.

All Christians are idiots and bigots.

    Is that clear enough?

    Fucck you

Seriously, what is with all the Christian bashing? It's like the new fade. Ironically for Christian bashers, I don't act like a true Christian, meaning I'm not above unscrupulous behavior which sucks for them. So while people like my mom and family members on her side of the family won't say a thing when people make fun of Christians I'll have to set some things straight on their behalf, because they won't

What the **** are you calling me a dick for? You had better stop with the insulting tone before I have you banned. I have not flamed you in such a way, and if you can't debate this topic without resorting to such nonsense, GET OUT! Sure, people change, but what does that change? Nothing. This guy was still a killer and what not. Are you saying that because this guy has become a Christian and asked for forgiveness, that he should be exempt from any sort of responsibility for his previous actions? That is what I am getting from your responses.

You need to stop taking things so damn personal. Accept the fact that a lot of Christians ARE closed-minded. That doesn't mean they all are, but the vast majority that I've experienced, are in fact closed-minded. And sure, the same closed-mindedness might be associated with other religions, but I honestly have not seem them stoop to the same level. I'd also say that left-winged atheists are the same way; or any extremist of religion for that matter.

I am not going to waste my time arguing with you. You are clearly unable to correspond with members on this topic, since you are preoccupied with being offended.

Honestly, I am not bashing Christians. I've got nothing against them. It's just when douche bags like this illusionist do such a thing, it really ticks me off. As I said to the other member, don't be personally offended by this. I am not attacking Christian beliefs or anything. I just think that it is wrong for people like this illusionist dickhole to be doing such things. Doesn't it piss you off, too? Some of my Christian friends are actually really irritated by what happened.

A bad thing about Christianity is, that its egoistic. Only thing it offers, is forgiveness and no punishment. If I do something wrong, I will be forgiven, but I will not be punished. Whats the point? We are such dogs that we will not learn, no wonder world is gone mad and there are school shootings and stuff. There is not enough punishment, teachings. If one can't go through anothers misery that he has caused, then how will he learn? He doesn't even have chance to learn, only thing he has, is forgiveness, so he could do the spill again... This has gone on ages, from any century, you could see some satirical writing or painting that shows some fat monk who is always forgiven and a beggar.
Unconciously this is also the reason why some people despise some people and go on killing spree. For some, it is just too late to start learning, and we don't need spoiled genes. Thats where part of supressed rage comes from. So, its not about Christianity today exactly, its just about spoiled nation, our general moral.

Now go ahead, bash me because I have bad attitude against Christianity and I didn't mention Muslims or Jews or anything... But a lot of nations have been torn apart by Christian slavery, including the one I am from.

Lilwing, I don't think you should be threatening this. You don't have the power to get anyone banned, and I think your argument can be made without threats.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

this is why we don't have religious threads... it's too personal for anyone to handle before a stupid argument arises.
