I feel ashamed of humanity when I watch the news, too. People inflict incomprehensible amounts of cruelty on other people. We are worse than animals sometimes.

I wish the news would cover inspiring stories just as equally as the disturbing ones. All the heroes out there get eclipsed by the crazies.

This is not actually self hate. I don't hate myself, I think I am a good person. But other people make me go in disgust, in order to get to know how scavages think, you need to move towards being a scavage.. Sometimes, due the world having so many cruel people around, cruelty has become a normal thing, many people don't even realize things. They get food on the table, drinks, TV, house, wealth, and the closest thing to feeling it real is to many.. through God only... This is a dissapointment.

Get back to ground people, look around, see what your are actually doing. You are living on Earth, not in Heaven.

I am well aware of what is going on around me, but I do not feel responsible for other people's bad behavior. It is a waste of time.

Do I sometimes feel horrified? Yes. Ashamed? No. Why should I? Other people's behavior bears no reflection on me.

But you are part of this chainring, aren't you? Lets start from the food you eat.

    Everybody thinks its the others.

You know what helped me through depression? Its not the thought 'its the others', it was the thought that me too am in this chainring and I can make a difference. Even by making this thread I already made a difference because somebody is probably reading it and thinking about it. This is the way how moral grows.

Am I supposed to feel ashamed because I eat?

    Hmm... sorry, I don't.

I spent at least 1400 hours of my life in service to others.

And you've created a thread to bitch in.

    Way to make a difference.

Whatever you tried to say there was lost in translation, Boobaa.

If you meant you're ashamed to have food while others starve, well, do something about it. Volunteer yourself like Fras. Donate. Give. Praying for change or lamenting humanity's callousness does nothing to put food in a starving child's belly.

I feel ashamed when I waste food. We take so much for granted.

My friend's husband is from Nigeria, he grew up very poor. It absolutely blows his mind when we peel apples or carrots or potatoes and throw the peels away, or when we cut less than desirable parts off of meat and vegetables.

I also worked with many terribly poor people in Vietnam. Seeing how they lived made me feel awful about bitching about anything in my life, or even overeating or throwing food away.

What disappoints me about humanity is the utter greed, and it's pervasive in every culture. I feel it's our duty in life to help out others however we can, no matter what our lot in life. People don't get that, and it annoys me.

The food chain is a beautiful thing. Do you have any idea where humans are on the food chain? They're pretty far on the bottom, hahahaha

I refuse to bow to political correctness that says I should feel guilty for throwing potato and carrot peels away. I grew up very poor, and I know what it is like to go without. I already did my "rich man's guilt" bit in my early 20s. It doesn't help a thing, and if poor people lived my life, I don't think they'd be ashamed (nor would I expect them to). Life isn't fair, and the poor have things I envy, for example, a stronger sense of faith and ultimate justice.

I find it more useful to appreciate my blessings, and help others when I can. Volunteer work does a lot to alleviate inappropriate shame. I don't feel it is my responsibility to single-handedly repair all the problems of the world, but I do what I can to help. I'll leave the shame for someone else.

Look, you don't even know me.

It seems its always the race about who is better, who has done more, no matter the topic.

Oh, and I wasn't talking about people in particlular. And as i see you have failed to see my point, there is no reason for asking another questions, I already got the answer. Whats wrong with making a thread, it wasn't even bitching, all i did was asking a simple question, and you are here to answer it. Did your life collapse because of this thread or something?

That's why we're driving countless species to the brink of extinction.

You mean your real life friends? Or the people on the forums?
