I have had a biologist tell me (class) that women usually do not get pregnant very easily if contraceptives were used even incorrectly...you will have to do it wrong ever time and during a time near ovulation.

The trick is to find the time of ovulation and avoid sex during a few days before and after it. And not all women have a regular ovulation cycle.

That statement is only true if she is not ovulating. You can do it once per month and still get pregnant (watch out for the sexually aggressive female as she may be ovulating, lol).

As for the first sentence. That is not true. It does not take months for a woman to get pregnant. It may take months to find her fertile period (time of ovulation). If you are unsuccessful in getting pregnant the first month there is no magical build up of sperm or whatever for her to eventually reach over a threshold to 'pregnantbility'.
