    Hey guise, Czech this out!

I'm 42. I've been married three years and I have two young children. Last month I began seeing another woman. She's the most intelligent and thoughtful woman I've ever met. I really feel she's my soulmate and I plan to leave my family and travel to Europe with her. She's my 12 year old niece, and boy is she mature for her age!

Anyway, I'm posting this because my coworkers look at me with disgust and I want to be reassured. They don't understand true love! Please, Love Forum, stroke my ego.

I certainly hope that your ex-partner got custody of your child. Honestly, your parenting skills must be severely impaired to find this to be acceptable or healthy.

Seriously...it's really ironic that he came on and called HER the "sociopath."

i read this post today and wondered what your opinions would be of a relationship i had a few months back......

i have a very good work friend whos in his 40's, im 22 and visit him quite often as hes a good friend out of work as well... i went round his place for our usual friday nite sitting drinkin and watching tv sessions, his kids [2 of them to a long since ended relationship] were still there, one is 14 and the other is 16. anyway... he was sorting out with his ex for where the youngest would be goin or sum such and i was left in the front room with his 16 yo daughter, we started chatting and turns out shes a very intelligent lass; i mean she was in the top 5% at school for her exams. she went out with her friends after about 20 mins or so and me and my friend began our nite...

she subsequently added me on facebook and we bagan chattin on msn. initially it was general chatting about life etc.. but after a while we met up and began spending time with each other at convenient times....
ie; she would be out with her friends on a friday and we would meet before i made my way to see her dad.. convenient

evetually we began meeting more regular and we went to the beach together and out to lunch etc... we kissed when we were on the beach after about 2 months after first meeting one another and began spending more time with each other more and more after that, her coming round to my place a few times...

things were good but we had chatted about the relationship we both had with her dad and both our plans for the future [i plan to go abroad to work for 2 years wuite soon] and we decided we should probably not see each other as more than friends until she had finished her studies and i had done my bit of travelling.

we both still talk to each other loads and its more and more that im realising what a great person shes going to become in a few years time, she has alot of common sense and compassion 4 others more than what you usually see in people these days.

i hope we will both stay in contact because id love to see her later down the line, because we both felt a connection, but i think we did the sensible thiing and let ourselves both have a little fun before we make any real choices.

id be interested in your opinions given the topic...

just for the record tho... 44, 16... wtf?!?!

22 is too old for a 16 year old, too Psydex. The difference is, though, that your age gap will narrow to an acceptable range in a couple of years.

Don't you Brits have laws about this kind of thing?

we do have laws... age of consent is 16.

but thats what we thought shh!, we both felt a connection and enjoyed spending time with each other, but we both need to live a bit i suppose before we enter into something serious. as you say, in a few years, when shes 20 and im mid 20's we'll both be more mature to approach the situation. plus her dads not gonna rip my throat out then [hopefully]

I have a 15 year old girl, and believe me when I say that if a boy 6 years older was "only" kissing her, I'd gouge his eyes out before handing him over to my husband and son to finish the job.

What, other than a libido, does a 22 year old have in common with a 16 year old? You can try to convince yourself all you want that you're interested in her for her mind but I don't buy it.

Look at it this way, it wasn't so long ago that she was playing with Barbie dolls.

I was wondering that myself, that maybe in his country the laws of consent are different. Psydex, what do people generally think of this law?

    I think it's a dangerous one.

I was saying that I thought their age of consent law was dangerous, but maybe I'm misunderstanding. Isn't our age of consent here in the states 18?

Dangerous for who? The law is supposed to protect the child from men like this.

Anyway, our laws of consent vary from state to state, but generally, I think it is 18.
