So? What does that have to do with anything, except say that he's possibly afraid of dealing with a mature woman who might challenge his, er, unusual tastes?

Eventually, he will get tired of you. At your age, you don't have much to offer him emotionally, socially, intellectually. That's not a comment on your future, so don't be offended, its just the fact of where you are in life.

I'm hoping, however, that you tire of him first. I know you don't want to think of yourself as being used, hun, but from where I sit (I know quite a bit about teachers, in case you don't know) there really isn't much else to explain things. Its either that, or he's *very* immature, which is very disturbing in a high school teacher.

I say good luck to the guy. He's not that much older is he? He's in his 20s, right?

Contrary to the myth older women like to propagate, not all guys go for young women because they're intimidated by their more mature counterparts. Some guys just like young flesh.

And I agree this is exactly whats going on. I think this guy is nearly 30, CB and Lanna was his high school student until last year. I knew a teacher who used to do his students. Lost his job, eventually.

Oh well, 'play and pay' will apply, I guess.

Your bf IS my age. I can guarantee if I dated him and found out he'd been screwing an 18 yr old former student, I'd dump him immediatly. I'd figure there was something wrong with him on some level.

I was meaning to emphasize the 'keep on walking' part, actually.

I think Lana said he was 30, but I could be wrong.

And the "myth" that CB is talking about is not about older men feeling intimidated by their contemporaries, it's about older men going for younger women because they don't want the pressures of settling down just yet, and settling down is what a woman in her thirties tends to want. So I don't think it's a myth.

The young flesh is just a perk.

I wouldn't underestimate the power of the perk Starbuck.

Edit: damn that was a good pun.

I think a lot of these older guys are attracted to the perk, but I don't underestimate that they are likewise uncomfortable with the expectations (most) women their age will have for them. Younger girls will tolerate a helluva lot more crap than older women would.

In the end, I consider it a weeding-out process. I mean, do (grown up) women really even want the kind of guy that does this?
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

I'm getting to that stage myself. Girls my age are just starting to look for serious commitment. As in marriage commitment. One of the really nice things about dating Kristen (who was 19 when we started going out) aside from her perkiness, was that time wasn't an issue.

Now I don't want to marry for at least another five years. So dating younger girls makes sense, otherwise I'm just wasting the time of women looking for something I'm just not ready to give. Mind you I'm talking 21-23.

And nor should you settle down, CB. You're around 25 right? I don't know alot of guys here who would want to settle at 25. I didn't want to when I was that age either. I think some others have said this already but overall, you seem to have a pretty positive outlook on relationships compared to some others on this board. It bears repeating.

But there are guys who go into their thirties and still date girls who are 23 and younger (like Lana's boyfriend). They're the ones who seem to have more of a chronic commitment-phobia. Either that or they like the ego-stroking of constantly being the much more experienced half of the relationship.

I could date a 20-something guy if I wanted to. I'm young enough looking. Hell, he'd probably not even know the diff I told him I was 30. And women like perky flesh, too. But in the long run, I know that it wouldn't be any kind of lasting relationship for me. And it would get boring as **** to always be the "right" one in every argument because I had experience on my side.

Not that a commitment is something I desperately want. Sometimes I'm not even sure I want to get married, but that's another issue entirely. Perhaps I should start my own thread for that.
