Hey, at least you know me and that I like to make outrageous statements

No, there is no problem with you trying to promote a good feeling between LF members. I actaully thougt your sweet talking was very romantic.

Who discovered all those theorems and things you learn about? Ethnic European men, gee what a surprise!
I don't expect nor need people to agree with everything I say. I think people should always voice their own opinion (of course with adequate support). So, don't pretend to agree with me if you don't.

Were you exposing yourself? If you were, then thats very sweet of you.

It isn't easy explaining how an area as small as Europe gave birth to almost all scientific and mathematical advancements, as well as being the birthplace of the worlds greatest civilizations

    Ohh, yeah it is.

DM is right about the history of tech & science. However, past is past. It is where we are going that is important.

Newton said it best: If I have seen farther, it is b/c I have stood on the shoulders of giants. Tho, Newton was a pretty kick-ass giant himself, IMO.

Pretty much all cultures now have access to this knowledge, so it will actually be very interesting times ahead. No longer will 'lack of access' for info be a valid argument for why a particular ethnic group does or doesn't excel.

Oh, and on a slightly related note, most of these geniuses came from at least moderate wealth. Its hard to think about abstract thoughts when you are starving, so I agree that a certain amount of practicality is required when choosing a career.

DM, for example, can make a shit-load of $$$ as a doc & then spend his hobby-time working on new chemistry theories. Or writing computer programs, or a book. Lots of very bright ppl do this, you should see our basement projects.

Actually...mathmatics originates from Egypt and Babylonian.

And the American curriculum is very eurocentric so its natural students there think that most mathematics and science innovations come from Europe.

Math didn't originate anywhere, that's as dumb as saying walking had an origin

Math courses can't be eurocentric or otherwise. Unless you take a course in "The History of Math." Important math concepts originated from Europeans. They aren't leaving anything out Asians discovered. It's just the Europeans discovered it all
