Not sure what to do in this situation

I have been dating an amazing woman for the last few weeks. We are both in college together and since it is summer we haven't been able to see each other save a few times (3 full day dates). The last date we talked about taking things further when we are both back at college together (August 20th), meaning we will be official or whatever. She has been on a backpacking trip the past 9 days with no phone so we haven't talked for that long.

Here is my dilemma. I don't feel single at all even though my "status" on facebook still reflects this. We had the, I like you, you like me talk and I feel that if it had not been for the trip that she went on and the length of time in which we would not see each other, we would have been official already. We are somewhat intimate (making out).

I have decided I want to bring this up in conversation next time I talk with her, today or tomorrow, but I am not sure exactly what to say!?
---Do I ask her if we are official or ask her if we are exclusive?
---How do I bring this up in conversation without sounding desperate but let her know that I feel we need to talk about this because I think she might be feeling the same way?

I need any advice you can give me on this situation! Thanks!

How intimate have you guys been? Did you have intercourse or make out or a kiss?

Just making out...we held each other for awhile and have made out alot. We have been really open now about how we feel about each other but I just don't think it makes sense to wait until we are together to talk about making it official if we both feel the same way about it now.
