My grandfather has a portrait of my great, great, great granduncle (or something like that) in full confederate uniform.
He was supposedly a landowner and had many slaves, though I think that's wishful thinking on the part of my distant redneck relatives. Were that the case where did the money go?

But in all seriousness, it was my great great (maybe one more) grandfather who fought, he was a cavalry officer. He was from either Kentucky or Tennessee, cannot remember but I'll find out tomorrow
In a few short days I will have more information on my lineal ancestor. Apparently he was captured toward the end of the war and nearly starved to death in the prison camp
