I will do my best to reply with an educated, humble and honest answer. Ultimately, it is up to you whether you want to listen to my advice or ignore it completely. Sometimes, my advice may be wrong; occasionally, it will be right. Regardless, I want to do my best to give people answers they are seeking.
You said yourself that the recruiters overlooked course difficulty in favor for what the final grades are, so how is it supposed to be so undoubtedly difficult to get in when that's the case?
Because what IS required is a high GPA, MCAT score, and many extracurricular activities, which alone is difficult enough to do. And even then, there is a surplus of these kinds of applicants who apply to medical school, so chance then plays a role. Most medical schools accept around 5% of people who apply. Gender and race also play a role
The difficulty of classes taken is one more way to differentiate between applicants, but medical schools don't always do it. What does Chem3890 mean to a medical school? They aren't going to phone the professor who teaches the class and ask how difficult it is
So that is why I am a little bummed, because that is one thing that would have been to my advantage but they don't use
Exactly. This is where those reference letters come in handy. Usually, you will write your own letter for your profs (be sure to mention your quantum physics courses) and they will edit and sign them. At least, that's what we do. Its good practice; one day you will be the one being asked to write those letters.
BTW, on that note, did you know that most physics grads that apply to med school (who are interested, many aren't) do get in? There is a perception that physics = smart. Your chemistry degree will have a bit of extra pull vs. a standard bio one.

you'll be fine, brah.
While I can't say there isn't bullshit to be found working in the trades.
I can say that most construction companies don't worry about shit like diversity.
Some companies are all white, some are mostly white, some are composed of mostly spanish speakers. Not many are made up of all blacks, (that I've seen, except for a concrete crew, which is weird because they're usually hispanic).
If you suck, you get fired.
If you suck well, then you get promoted.
That was a joke.
Anyway, I do enjoy a more merit based atmosphere.
Don't get me wrong, the women and minorities that are accepted are all good applicants, I'm sure, but they should take simply the best out of everybody. Which they do not
I agree, but the interview process makes that bias hard to avoid.
You can always apply to UBC or McGill here, DM. You'd get in, and you wouldn't be deep in debt when you graduate. Just do a research fellowship at one of the Big Three afterward and you are set to go anywhere.
