    Learn mandarin(chinese), have you started?

    Hey guys,

I notice a close friend of mine based in USA started to learn to speak/write mandarin(chinese)..
He is still in the college, if i am not wrong.

Look like alot of people want to learn chinese as more business require some contact with the chinese from asia especially china..

Will you learn it if you are given a chance to work in china/or any part of asia in the future?

Definitely, I chose not to do it in uni simply because it's too stressful to learn properly that way, and too costly. Language course after I get out or something.

Working in asia is somewhat tempting because the building regulations are slacker (the aussie regs can be an utter pain at times).

I've thought about it, but I'll probably never move to or work in Asia, so it would be more for a hobby.

    Besides, shouldn't everyone speak English?

    I was being sarcastic.

But anyways, English is the international language of business. There are more Chinese speakers in the world, but that's just because they have 6 billion people in their country. Most non-English speakers choose English first when they want to study a second language. I guess that does make it pretty universal.

I've studied German, Punjabi, and I'm in the middle of Spanish right now. Chinese is low on my priority list.

For now But yeah, unless you want to tap into the chinese/south east asian market or culture in the future there's not much need in that sense.

Likewise for the chinese citizen in china, they are studying very hard to learn & master english so that they can integrate into overseas market as well.

English language is still the big brother but mandarin(chinese) is picking up slowly.
