Cats get hit way more than dogs.

Dogs havnt evolved this way as they are domesticated, and most are trained to walk down the street, ignoring cars amongst other things. They cross roads and travel in cars, so in effect any fear they may have of them is being bred and trained out with years of domestication.
Of course, some dogs have a natural fear of cars, but dogs that show this trait, often have various other fears in life.

Cats, on the other hand, are mostly left to their own devices when not in the home, they dont get taught to walk to heel along a busy road etc, and they are naturally a more wary animal so do tend to cross quickly over roads..not because they see the car as about to run them over, but because they see a big, fast moving object 'coming to get them'
Most cats and other animals are killed during hours of dark, mainly due to the fact that the headlight of a vehicle make them freeze to the spot.(and of course, many are naturally more active at night)

cats seem to sense oncoming doom from cars. if they get hit, it's usually because they are running from some impending danger, usually it's the car they sense coming at them, and they've miscalculated their location in relation to the the cars location and how fast it is coming.

you cannot argue that dogs are used to cars, therefore they do not sense them. because you would have to argue the same about deer, bears, and cattle, that are not domesticated.

Well, no, because i dont think you can compare cattle, deer, bears to dogs...they all get hit by cars, but the areas they live are larger, so therefore, roads are easier to avoid.

Of cause they build up a natural awareness of 'scary things move on roads' type thing, what im trying to say is that dogs have no reason to fear cars, so why should we expect them to avoid them.

I have both cats and dogs. The cats are more of a pain in the ass, for sure.

There is a polish book 'About dog,who was riding the railway' by Roman Pisarski , which is the most beautiful book about dog that I have ever read. It's a book kids use to read in primary school.
Even now when I read it I cry at the end when Lampo dies

If You ever ,by accident, would find that book in english, don't hesitate to read. It's short but just ...No way You won't like it...

I would like to have a dog... In two weeks I have bday but it's also the date of my dog's death. He died exactly a year ago after 17 years of living... I still miss him

Yeah...Especially if the dog lives long and You treat him like a member of Your family it's really a big loss...

I still have scar Niko(aka Mico Pico,Michael Angelo and more) made me when we both were 'puppies' That will always remind me of him
Btw, he was a rebel .He used to run away and come back after few hours. My family told be a story when I was 2-3yo and Niko was still a puppy,he ran away. My brothers and sister were looking for him in whole city but couldn't find him. After two weeks our tv broke and my dad took it to the repair.Hehe and guess what , he found Niko in a cartoon next to the block. Some kids found him and were feeding him with crackers hehehe . We were lucky to find him back

dogs are fantastic, my lot absolutely love my son- people cant believe it when i tell them what dogs i have and what breed they are (4 rottweilers, a german shepherd and a border collie)
The rottweilers over here are wrongly accused of being 'child killers'.

Lol. We were living in a block so the only one way to run was through the doors. So he used the opportunity when somebody opened the doors hehe . When for example somebody needed to talk with open doors, they needed to keep the legs tight.Niko liked also to force to get out pushing on legs with his nose.Hehehe but it was back then when he was young and fit
