    BAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh George. Thank you. I needed a laugh. Why do you keep thinking I'm hot? Not only do I have an ugly mug, I also smell a little bad, and I have a fat ass.

And no, if any of you are wondering, girl68 and I are NOT the same person. We just resemble one another.

omg, this scary.....I agree with BG on something.

I'm not going to argue the pros or cons of the do-they-or-don't-they-deserve-its of waitstaff tipping, rather I'd like to comment on the original topic: tip jars.

this is something I also have a problem with. if you do a good job, I believe you deserve to be rewarded for it. I have tipped wait staff when they have genuinely made an effort to improve the dining experience (cafe', restaurant, or otherwise), I've also personally thanked cooks/chefs for an outstanding meal. but to EXPECT or try to guilt you into a little extra when you're leaving is just ludicrous, and I for one won't do it.

Why does anyone feel compelled to rant about tipping. If I feel like someone doesn't deserve a tip, I just don't leave one. And don't you end up tipping at the very end when you're about to leave? You may never see that server again, so why does anyone even trip off it?

I can understand why larger parties are required to pay gratuity though.

Yes, your career as a receptionist requires excellent attention to detail. Waiting tables just means you had a good body when you were younger. There are much more stressful customer service jobs - like working at Kmart.

I'm not putting it down, they're building it up and I'm just trying to keep things in perspective.

I worked fulltime in retail customer service all the way through college, I worked in a kitchen through highschool and when I graduated got a customer service position at a bank, then I moved onto homeloan sales.

Only in the last 2 years have I had a professional job that doesn't in the slightest bit resemble sales or customer service or banking.

I respect that type work because I did it for years and years. What I therefore know is that people who work in hospitality because it is a choice they're there for the cultural or social side of it. They're rarely hard up for work.

In the US people wait tables because it pays a shit load, not because they have no choice and it would be like anything else you'd struggle at first and maybe have a few crap nights but you would pick it up with a bit of effort. After one year it would be rolling off your tongue and become easy.

When I started in sales I was pathetic but after a while your confidence builds up and people eat out of the palm of your hand..

And I'll also say that retail etal are lesser jobs, though I respect them, what I do now can't be done by a random person off the street, it does take some sort of education, a bit of natural intelligence, subject matter knowledge and on the job training and experience. My job isn't even what I'd called highly skilled either. Retail ect you can pretty much pick anyone out and within 2-3 months they'll be very competent and after one year they'll be a master.

    This is very true.

But my ethics conflicted with being a salesman so I could be quite a jackass until I needed to pull my numbers for that week.

No, I am truely hideous. I was not hired based on my looks. You're calling MY personality ugly? That's cute. Maybe I do have a nasty personality, you however need to take a look in the mirror. Check out how many insults you've thrown around based on no facts, not one whatsoever.
