I have an 07 Civic SI - it's probably on the top end of your price range if you look hard enough, but it gets good mileage and is sporty. Celica's are nice, but I would check out a civic also.
yeah.... ironically i'd rather get the over-priced and slower accord than a civic. i'm honestly not looking for a fast car, but rather a jdm car that i can play with. and when it comes to toyotas.. they were my favorite, until they changed the body style of the celica...

Honda CRV's are great- AWD for the winter, great on gas and excellent resale value. I had a subaru before...another great AWD vehicle- got a sedan (not the wagon) and my favorite rock star even told me he loved my car! Now I'm driving the Honda- but Toyota SUV would be good- comparable to the CRV. I ALWAYS get the consumer guide book when looking for a good used vehicle. It will tell you about the vehicles common defects, resale value, etc....don't get the honda civic though! I once test drove one and the body was so flimsy that when I tried to close the hood, I bent it!! HA! I doubt they would be very safe in a crash! I am petite, too and if I could bend the hood of the car trying to close it, not good....not trying to sound anti-american but I have found that the foreign cars (honda, subaru, and toyota) are the best in all categories. Do some homework and test driving- GET THE CONSUMER GUIDE BOOK for used vehicles.
