I've been there...it is kinda distracting...I nailed her on the desk in the monkey building...you shoulda heard the monkeys screamin...and her.

I'm annoyed by there being TWO "formal" nights on this cruise I am going on, which will require TWO dressy dresses, and when I went shopping, all that was available were prom dresses with tons of sparkles. This is supposed to be a vacation, dammit, not a glitterfest!
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

No... the Mexican Riviera. I am hoping I don't get sea sick.

What is it with the still overly-gawdy gowns that look like Glinda the Good Witch opened her own chain? My mother used to try to get me to wear things like that. Ugh. I just want something simply and classic lest someone mistake me for a discoball. Vash, do you need mental preparation prior to clothes shopping too?

Only when I have to buy something in particular... like a dress.... or god forbid, a bathing suit. If I am out shopping for someone else, I always find stuff I like. I don't know though.... the last couple of seasons, the clothes have been ugly. The shoes, too.

i have one really nice dress that I am taking, and I think I will get sick on the second night, and make other arrangements. Honestly, 8 days is a lot of time to spend with people when you like a fair amount of solitude.

We've had f*cking rain for 3 weeks now, over an inch and a half last Saturday. I had a friend's wedding today and it's the only day of the week it DIDN'T rain.

Good thing, it was on a golf green and I don't wear a wet tux well.

You can't be alone in the cruise?

If I had to be 8 days with people the 24 hours of the day, I think I'd end up killing someone - if not myself.

Yeah, I am hoping I can get lost somewhere on the ship for a few hours a day. I understand there is a library on the ship.... that can't a popular spot for people on vacation, can it?

Why not choose a vacation next time that offers more private time? Cruises look like casinos to me. Big, flashy entertainment... Expensive drinks... Annoying touristy people. I can't do either environment. People get on my case 'cause I've never done Vegas. Honestly, I could probably stomach the excess for about two days max before I'd start to lose my mind.

You don't always get the vacation you want when you have kids. Mine are thrilled, and I am crazy about them, so I am exaggerating my enthusiasm.

Thought a cruise implied stopping off at scenic beach islands every odd day or something. Otherwise its just, as lahna mentioned, a floating hotel.

Oh yes, we will be stopping in a few spots... Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, Puerta Vallarta... I don't know if there is anywhere else. It should be fun.

Hehe, I guess I was quite a different kid. I always enjoyed the Florida vacations, and our weekends away to Northern New England, but I would've rather gone on more adventurous trips. I was born overseas while my parents lived in the Middle East. After we moved to the states, my parents brought many things back with them... Books, statues, pictures, pictures, pictures, woven baskets, jewelry. Growing up with all of it in the house piqued my curiosity and I would pour over books on the Red Sea for hours, or go through every single slide of my parents' African safari. It's like its in my blood now. Wanderlust forever.

Enjoy the trip regardless. I'm sure you'll be able to find some quiet corners on the boat

Yes, we all do, too (except my husband), but we are also going with another family. I wanted to do a Grand Canyon raft trip, but our friends can't take being on the water for so long. Oh well, this isn't my last vacation. It's good to be flexible, and really, I DO love these people. That's really the most important thing.
