yeah the confidence thing works, i usesd to be terrible talking to women, but i started taking a few risks, the last girl i asked out was on one of those speed dating sites at work, so i said to her "stop wasting your time on there and come out with me this friday" sure enough got a date, i never would have had the balls before but it works...

It's different for everyone. Just going out of your way to talk to her I suppose. Say hello, if you know a common interest, talk to her about that, talk about your mutual friends....just make conversation. Doppelgaenger's idea is good. I'm not surprised it works 90% of the time, you'd contact the person/be willing to talk to them either way; whether it's because you like them or out of interest and curiousity.

It sounds like you're waiting for her to notice you and come up to you - the passive role is generally what females do. You're going to be perceived as weak and lacking confidence if you don't approach her.
