I was about to post it, but glad i read EVERY post lol! As I was about to say, it's all about to come to a head VERY soon. America has this money problem that just can't seem to be fixed. Cuts are coming from every where! The "war on drugs" is nearly over. Florida is close to becoming a medicinal marijuana state, and the ball will begin to roll for the rest of us. I agree with a lot you, hard drugs destroy families. Alcohol and tobacco do also, but I feel most of the time, it's not the alcohol, tobacco, or weed.....it's the irresponsible idiotic person consuming them. I could live without alcohol and i don't smoke cancer sticks because who wants to get cancer? Don't do drugs, but I do smoke the all natural mary jane from time to time. I illegally smoke pot, while others legally try to drink their problems away at the bar and drive home drunk. Or better yet smoke a pack a day to relieve stress and end up in the hospital dyeing a slow horrible cancer ridden death........and then they get prescribed medical marijuana for the pain, how ironic is that.

This discussion thread is ridiculous. We need to separate this topic into two separate discussions. Most of us would probably agree that marijuana isn't a big deal and should be legalized. and most of us would probably agree that highly-addictive drugs like meth, crack and heroin should remain illegal.

i do not agree with it. i don't think we should spend our tax money putting crack heads in jail. i would rather spend that money trying to actually treat them. i think it would be cheaper for us to actually subsidize their drug use. then they won't have to steal shit or waste emergency room staff time drug seeking.

When it comes down to it drugs are illegal because the old heads who are in power still believe that all drugs are "bad". Because of that stigma no one will step up and try to make real change. Every one of them would be concerned about their political career as opposed to the actual benefits of legalizing drugs. If its legal it can be regulated and taxed, not to mention the taboo factor is cut to zero.

I also think it is hilarious that people associate illegality with people not being able to do something or get something. If something is illegal like cuban cigars or cocaine it just creates an underground market for it and it becomes something precious and more sought after. Illegality might make it harder to get something but it absolutely does not (and cannot) stop it.

Actually I think that it should be made legal, but let all of the crackheads od and die. If 100,000 people died of crack overdoses in the first month of legalization that would be much more of a statement than any awareness campaign. If major drugs were legalized the law should include a waiver of medical treatment for individuals who choose to abuse whatever drug. Taxes collected on a drug sale, no money wasted on medical attention for irresponsible users, no underground market. Done and done.

I'm sure many will say that is harsh, but it makes sense. Sure the philanthropic way would be to help anyone in need, but I really think that people need to be responsible for their own actions. Instead of the government trying to be a parent to a naughty child and saying "now now you can't have that" they need to allow people to make their own decisions and then force them to deal with those decisions through inaction (no assistance).

that would be like not helping somebody who has alcohol poisoning.

i like how we offer assistance to rebels in libya and the pakistani government to fight alqaeda and mexico to fight a so-called war on drugs and huge companies who spent their money irresponsibly but we can't give families of drug abusers help.
