    Mononucleosis

    Has anyone had it? Care to share your experience?

    Yes! Oh it was awful - I was bedridden for 6 weeks, my mum literally sponge bathed me, and helped me to the toilet etc. Getting my fitness back took several months more. I couldn't eat anything and lived pretty much off energy drinks and water. Swallowing liquid was incredibly painful, I just couldn't bear the pain with food although I did manage a few mouthfuls of baby food a day. Even now (16 years later) I still get incredibly swollen glands, which get quite painful when my immune system is down, and I find I'm very susceptible to throat infections.

    Horrible stuff.

    It is a weird illness, in my case i'd wake up feeling so unwell, couldn't move, fever etc then by about 9pm i'd feel loads better, get up, get food, go back to bed then the cycle would repeat itself!
    Felt like it was never going to end, lasted about 4-5 weeks but full recovery took months (would get tired & run down very quickly)
