I'm not female, so I can't answer your "key question"
But when someone says they don't like something about your appearance, that's their problem. They should take you for who you are.
On the other hand: when someone says to me that I have bad breath, I'm grateful for it. I hate it when people have really foul breath so I don't want to be someone like that.
But when someone says they don't like the fact that I have long hair..that's something they're going to have to live with
