Not sure what to do, does anyone know?

So late friday night I was in the passenger seat of my friends car and we were slammed by these idiots who already took responsibility for the accident. I'm pretty sure they were on drugs or....SOMETHING. They have the police reports and everything. I've been having neck and back pain since the accident, which they noted on the police reports as well. I did not go to the hospital though. What do I do next if I need to go to the doctors and get my neck and back checked out?? Their insurance has been giving me the run around so Do i just need to go to the emergency room or something? Obviously I'm a broke college student so paying out of the pocket isn't an option.

Wtf, it's amasing, you Americans have an accident and still have to question going to the hospital , just because you don't have an insurance... It's sad.

I guess you go to the emergency room (you don't pay there right?), they should check you, definitely. Don't wait with it, health is worth everything.

Yep I know right pp? I think it's figured out though...their insurance called me. I have an appointment tomorrow so we'll see how it goes. The bills will be going straight to their insurance company. Thank goodness. Maybe i'll even get a nice chunk of change from those a-holes.

Don't believe all that bullshit your media feeds you. Americans on insurance (and that is most of them, ~85%) don't hesitate to go to the ER.

And many of the ones that don't, including the millions of illegals, go to the ER for a fuccking cold. And the hospital is stuck with the cost.

Bo you have health insurance don't you? Most colleges here require it

actually you all you need to do is go to an attorney who'll refer to his doctor and he'll treat you free of cost on a lien basis.

Well it seems that still many people do not have insurance. 15% ? You have over 300 millions of population, that makes more or less 45 millions of people WITHOUT INSURANCE, I think it's sad. Maybe instead of investing in wars and helping gays around the world, you just give the insurance to everyone. It doesn't have to contain full package, but things like simple visits at the doctor, free hospital in case of accidents or bigger illnesses like cancer or something. My brother pays now 40 euros a month health insurance for him and his family and his kid has even free meds.
It's for people like Bo, where should she get money for insurance? It's not the first time that I see someone having a problem with the fact they don't have the insurance, so it's not the "tv" who's feeding me that bullshit. Maybe you and your parents have enough money to get an insurance, but many not. And that's why E.Rs are full of people with cold, cause where should they go? You have to have a bit of compassion. It's not only illegals who don't have insurance there. I think once Shorty had the same problem.

To BO, I'm happy they contacted you. It's always hard to get money from the insurance company in case of an accident, you know, they just want to profit from the money and when it's time to finally pay back, they will first try everything to avoid it.

Nope nada, in WA State you're entitled to health insurance on your parents plan until you are 26 years old. My parents don't have health insurance. It's too expensive.

Well we will see how the settlement goes. Those b**ches were cracked out of their minds, ran a red-light and rammed my friends brand new car. Tomorrow the doctor is going to decide on a treatment plan and I'll be updating the insurance company on what the injuries are.

They were just a foot away from smashing me completely. The rear passenger got most of the damage, luckily her son wasn't in the car because that's where he normally sits. He's only 6, he would have been SEVERELY injured.

You're right though, I wish they'd stop with the wars and the military it's all cooperate ran anyway. All he rich bastards in our country are invested in the war and haliburton. I wish they'd actually put money into our education and healthcare systems because both are quickly going down the drain.

I got slammed into by some woman and I just lawyered up immediately because I knew my vehicle insurance adjusters were going to be a-holes (they were). I don't even have to worry about the general healthcare part being in Canada, but my long-term physio wasn't covered (I was required to go five days a week at $40 per session for two months) and I'd need to pursue legal action for that. I met with a lawyer who didn't charge unless paid, and managed to get enough to cover my physio and time off work. I didn't go after the dumbass who hit me for anything else because I wasn't interested in getting rich, just getting well. Lawyers come in handy when insurance falls short.

Hope you feel better soon, Bo.

I can't watch a hockey game on TV without being spammed by personal injury lawyer commercials. In the US, if you are in a car accident, you can sue the person who caused the accident for millions of dollars. Tens of millions of dollars. Stupid juries who have no concept of the value of money, but believe "SOMEONE should pay," will award a person gratuitous sums of cash. The insurance companies are the ones who pay for it. Which means people who need to buy insurance pay for it.

So in short, a few people get rich from accidents, at the expense of people who buy insurance.

It's the same thing in medicine- a doctor can't save a persons life and the doctor is sued for tens of millions of dollars. Recently in Connecticut, a jury awarded a couple $58.6 million judgement against an ob/gyn doctor because their son was born with brain damage and not due to negligence. And people wonder why healthcare costs are so fuccking high in this country?
