First date-- alcohol instead of coffee..

Ok, So basically I'm on a dating site, and I go for many "first dates" to find the right person. I'm also a shy person and it is easier for me to meet somoene for the first time over a glass of wine than coffee.. But first dates are usually "going for coffee".. Is it okay if in answer to the question about where I want to meet and/or go I say something like "let's meet for drinks" or if i just name a restaurant or cafe that i know sells alcohol.. or am I going to make a bad impression.. (I am a female)
And if alcohol is okay, how to better word the sentance, to not sound like you are only eager to get drunk or anything..
    ?

If you suggest going to like a wine cellar or tasting, I think it will be fine.

Meeting up for "drinks" is just fine....female or male.....it's not the 1950's. Find a place that serves appies so you can have a few nibblies and not get tippsy off a couple of drinks. Limit yourself to two drinks, then if the date goes ok, suggest dinner somewhere else. If dinner is out of the question, keep your date to about an hour and a half.

Depends on the culture. Here in France meeting up for a drink is perfectly OK.

when i went on dating websites before in the past....we'd never meet up for coffee. First dates would 99% of the time be going out for a couple alcoholic beverages. I feel like it's starting to be the norm now a days. Its a terrific way to unwind, loosen up and feel a little bit more at ease. Just as long as you don't get drunk and make a fool out of yourself on the first date. I actually don't understand people who don't get a little liquid courage on the first date and is able to be themselves and open up..... For me, i say gimme all the liquid courage i can handle to get me through those dreaded first dates! Perhaps it's because i live in the city and it's very "sex and the city" to go out with girlfriends and get a couple martini's or to go to a nice bar/restaurant on a first date and get to know each other over a couple appies and cocktails.

Wine can help relax the situation, so it's fine with me, a guy.

Just say "I'd like to go somewhere I can have a glass of wine." Just don't go with Rafterman.
