You have known the guy for over 10 years and you can't talk to him about this??? Why are you here, letting people keep poking at it. Look if he isn't willing to communicate with you about this, then this relationship is doomed. Stop wasting your time with this dud. You let this go for a year, you are just as bad as he is. I see a lot of this problem lies with you not taking proper action. Get off the pot, and lay it out to him that if he doesn't want to fess up and work it out NOW, then you are gone.

All he is, is a friend anyway. Tell him you want to break up so you can find someone who wants to **** you, but you two should be able to maintain your friendship unhindered since that's all this is anyway.
