How do I get this guy to like me?

There is this really cute guy in my class, and he sits in front of me. I don't think we are anything more than just acquaintances, but I really like him. How to i attract his attention or make him like me without making it awkward or weird? And i don't want to be seen as someone who is desperate. Plus he is quite popular and 10 other girls like him as well.

You ask him for coffee. Traditional gender roles don't mean anything anymore, if you want someone (especially someone other girls want), you make a move, or watch one of them do it first and cry about a wasted opportunity.
