I always tought she was out of my league

I fell in love with a woman 21 years ago and I cant get her off my mind. I always tought that she didnt want me then because she was too good for me then 8 years ago I ran into her and she was really happy to see me. when I tried to apologized for backing away from our friendship ( after I confessed my love for her and she turned me down), she ran away from me very upset. I am still wondering what I did wrong or did she really love me back in 1991 and she didn't know it? or didn't want to admit it?
