Going to a nightclub on your own?

Hey, im pretty new to my local town (student town) and don't have any mates round here. So i was thinking, do I go out to a couple of clubs on my own, have a dance and meet some new people? Im 23.
Is this a bad idea?

Lame. I have ran into guys that went to the bar alone....totally lame. Most people make connections with online dating, or make friends through their job or school. Maybe join a club or play on a co-ed sports team.
