Animals in the wild rely on their gut instincts 99% of the time. Humans are the only species that really think things so thoroughly that many times it clouds our gut intuitions. We need to remember that humans are animals after all and our intuitions are powerful and shouldn't be so easily disregarded.

Well, depends what we define as 'intuition'. If I've felt a partner was being dishonest, it's usually because they were doing something to make me think that. It doesn't just come out of some pre-cognitive, intuitive magic land. In the absence of 100% proof, I guess we can call it a gut feeling but I reckon most people know because they see it but can't quite comprehend it at the time.
