I'll take a stab at this. It is a good theory to encourage a child instead of discourage one, but I feel people, parents, teachers have taken it too far and now we are stuck with a generation of pussified emotionally fragile kids. There are no survival skills learned when you teach "there are no loser only winners". Competition is crucial to survival in the real world. It motivates to be on top, to achieve goals, and learn to persevere when faced with failure. If they don't get to experience failure and its "consequences" when it does happen to them, they don't have the emotional capacity to handle it.
This site is prime example. There are some many young people that have no clue how to deal with the simplest of issues, like rejection. They fear it so bad, it is preventing them from experiencing important things in life, like relationships.
IMO it is healthy to experience losing, rejection and failure. The big missing link here is learning to be a good sport about it and moving on. Adler's method prevents this. Also kids need to learn consequences....a good spanking never hurt my generation, and without it today, we have a nothing but messed up, lazy, confused, spoiled brats.

I agree with Smackie. I wasnt wrapped in cotton wool. My life growing up was difficult at times but it made me a strong, independent, confident, hand working woman and I would never settle for second best.
Some of my friends/relatives who had an easy life compared to me are princesses who make a mountain out of a molehill constantly and fall apart over every minor crisis.
Kinda pisses me off actually"Don't ask a question if you can't handle the answer".
