He wants to be alone a lot

I've been dating him for over three months. We're in college, and we live in the same dorm.
If I could, I'd be with him every second of every day, but he says he needs space. He knows I need him so he comes by at least once every day but I worry that I'm becoming an obligation to him.
Should I be worried that he needs so much alone time? Is this normal? I thought then when he's in the kind of mood when he doesn't want to see people that I, his girlfriend, would be an exception.

Sometimes you need space even from your girl but only after three months seems a little weird to me have you tried asking him about it?

I did try talking to him about it, but all he said was to stop worrying, and that there's just a lot of time when he can't deal with human interaction. It does just seem... abnormal after three months though
