    Advice

I am a deaf guy. I became a profoundly deaf at 7 months old when I had high fever. It was a bad reaction to my DPT shot. It destroyed my hearing. It was very hard for my family, but they decided that they wanted me to have a “normal” childhood. As a toddler, I had to learn how to sign use sign language and work on speech therapy also. After years of intensive speech therapy, I learned to say some things, but it became apparent that I would need to use sign language as my main means of my communication. About Dating. I am pretty sure it is difficult, challenging for me when I date but I always offer sign language lessons if they were interested in learning sign language and how to communicate with me as a normal person.

I just met her name is Liv from the dating site and we were talking for a while. After few hours, she had to leave and had to join her family to attend the wedding event last night since she gave me her number for text messaging. We have been talking through text messaging while she was at the wedding until 10 pm. In the morning, i just woke up and texted her "Good morning, how are you" then we started talking a little bit until she was out with her family while she was busy. In afternoon, I decided to send her a few messages about random questions and have waited for her response. I still got no response from her since I sent her another message says Did I blow your phone up and she answered yes you did. I asked her "Should I move on and leave her a lone" No response for 10 minutes then I sent her a message says I want to say I'm sorry I didn't mean to text so much. I had a little more time on my hands the last few hours than normal and I wasn't expecting you to respond to everything. You can just respond when you are able. I will try to be more conscientious of it now that I know and just wait for you to initiate a conversation if that would be better???"

Please advise. What do i do? I know it is hard and difficult for me as a deaf guy.

She was texting with you while at a WEDDING? Sounds like she's hardly in a position to be criticising you. What appalling manners she has!

    Texting rules:

    1. Don't text with someone if they are out socialising
    2. If she couldn't talk or was bored of texting, she should have said something.
    3. If you text someone and there's no response, it means that it's inconvenient for them to talk. Do not text again until they contact you...unless it's truly urgent.

    Good luck
Never regret anything that has happened in your life. It cannot be changed, forgotten or undone. So, take it as a lesson learned and move on.

    More rules:

    4. If it's urgent, never text. Texts are sometimes lost and often delayed for days. Call if it's urgent.
    5. If you think you might be in danger of blowing up their phone, ask if it's a good time to do so.

Many people can text too much too soon, so don't worry about it too much. Detach a little bit, do your own things and don't spend your days glued to your phone :-) Communication should be both ways, so she should also initiate some of the texting.

Sending messages is just the initial phase, when you start seeing each other it's when you'll realise how much you enjoy being with one another. Until then, don't build too many hopes, or you could get disappointed as many often do. Good luck.

Thanks! Should I wait on her to contact me or find someone better than her? I don't call people on the phone due to my hearing impairment but I only use text messaging. Please advise.

Oh that's right... duh. Sorry 'bout that.

I would let her contact you. If she doesn't... well than that's a lesson learned, right?

Always keep your options open, never stick with one unless you are officially seeing each other going out on more than 3 dates, and it looks serious. Texting with someone for weeks without seeing each other should not be counted as dating, or expect it to be a commitment, they are just chatting with you and with others, and possibly have a BF. The proof is in the dates, and their willingness to make time to see you.

I have great respect for you and all of those with disabilities. I do however find that most of the people I know with disabilities are happier than the average person who is without them.

Yeah, I never really thought too much about how a deaf person dates someone who doesn't know sign language.

Also, don't over text....it's simply annoying specially to people who are busy.
