What kind of workout are we talking about? For weight lifting I do some sort of carb and some sort of protein both pre and post, with the pre workout meal being a fairly light one. For bjj since I'm constantly exerting myself, eventually to the point of exhaustion, and will vomit if I have food and solid protein sitting in my stomach I like fruit or coconut water and free form BCAAs.
Your total nutrient intake at the end of the day is more important than anything with regards to nutrient timing, including the workout window, so keep that in mind before you get too obsessed with what to do pre and post workout.
