That's exactly it Indi. Past IS past. This includes modern history as well. It's in the past. If you are going to say that all ancient inventions are null because they are history and it's all now about progress then so are the modern ones since they are history as well. In which case there are no most influential cultures to date.

There are clearly no facts and no proof to support a statement like that. You can scream as loud as you can that the sky is orange, but in the end it's not going to make it so. A lot of progress in history of mankind was made long before a thing as a western (European) culture as we know it today even existed. If you take a history of mankind as one day, European culture as we know it today will only be a couple of minutes in those twenty four hours. How can those couple of minutes be as gigantic of footprint in the history of mankind as you claim it to be? The answer is simple it can't and it's not. It's just another transient page in a book which is our history.
P.S. I think this thread should be put to rest

Don't cry, don't regret and don't blame
Weak find the whip, willing find freedom
Towards the sun, carry your name
In warm hands you are given
Ask the wind for the way
Uncertainty's gone, your path will unravel
Accept all as it is and do not blame
God or the Devil
