I am glad he is doing something nice for you. You deserve it.
Maybe empower wasn't the right word. I guess my objection to the maid costume is that it encourages fantasies of dominating over the weak and powerless, so I guess I would choose something that didn't do that. (I am having a hard time imagining men dressing up in something that sends that message.)
