Sunday, BBQ'd at home for lunch, had Shabu dinner for my friend's kid's 1st birthday, took my kid home and got my assed kicked by Hennessy and Stella.

And now I get to wrap it all up by doing NOTHING for Memorial Day ... although there are talks of yet ANOTHER BBQ ... Geez, I don't think I want to eat another chicken wing, rib, or burger for a loooong time.

My friend is moving out of his old apartment and he gave me his desktop computer because it 'broke'. Man, if only he knew the value of all the parts he gave me - 320gb SATA hd, brand new BFG video card, Intel V//V processor (not very familiar with intel, but I know this is a recent and good chip), DVD-RW (ide, but who cares, right?) various front panel components (LED lights, power switch, firewire, USB 2.0, audio panel, etc), various SATA and IDE cables. I also have the mobo and I am going to strip capacitors and other components from it. I'd say that I could get maybe $120 for the parts, possibly more.

This is why I love computers. People always give me their 'old' components and I inherit all kinds of parts. I need to organize all my extra parts somehow...

I was visiting with one of my good girlfriends on Sat night, she is engaged to my boyfriends best friend. We all hang out a lot and are close..watch eachothers kids and such. I guess when my bf was out in Baltimore and acting all mushy that whole week "absense makes the heart grow fonder" he said that. :O He also confided to her that he was ring shopping out there and he just can't wait to be married. To me.

Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
    A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
    Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

I'm enjoying the Bose sound system I hooked up to my PC and the crystal clear melodies of Shostakovich, Brahms and more. Ironic considering I work in advertising and I understand exactly what Bose is doing. I do it myself. Higher price, sexier design. No better than the slightly uglier set of speakers that cost about a hundred bucks less. Alas, I am but a mortal, flesh and blood, desires and passions. I find myself incapable of resisting this particular temptress.

I didn't know you liked Shostakovich Gribble. His 4th, 7th and 8th symphonies are awesome! Do you know where (and when) the 7th symphony was written?

I'm rather partial to his 5th. It's like an adventure to my ears. I don't really know how else to describe it. Of course his 5th seems to be everyone's favorite, so it's not exactly a chic choice.

Actually, no. I don't know much about how or when it was written. All I know is it's a powerful symphony in the rawest sense. I can envision Soviet might smashing against opposition like a hammer.

On a side note, I'm actually becoming rather disappointed in my new sound system. The subwoofer is fantastic. It's tiny but powerful. The speakers, though, sound a bit tinny. Honestly, the ones built into my monitor seem every bit as good to me. Sigh.

The 7th symphony was written during the siege of Leningrad. Shostakovich was there at the time while the Germans were bombarding the city and destroying all supplies. He escaped later on through a tiny safe haven, but the city itself remained under siege for another 3 years. When all birds, dogs and cats were done away with people started eating each other, it was a horrendous moment in history and in this background and context the 7th symphony was written. It starts as an innocent German march (similar to Yankee Doodle) and then slowly grows into a monstrosity that the siege had become.

Anyway, I thought with this knowledge you might get a different appreciation of his music.

I suppose it's not Soviet might, then, but Nazi might, huh?

The Soviet might (or misuse of it) is in Symphony 8 I think. Stalin banned it. It only got unbanned after his death.

I've been enjoying sitting in the library getting work done ALL DAY. This is the first day since graduation that I have worked more than 3 hours. I rock.

I finished Alan Wake! Officially it's my favourite Survival Horror game of all time. I feel like playing it again on the highest difficulty setting. Awesome story, game mechanics, atmosphere and sound effects!

Pretty pink pedicure! and two new dresses. I am going on vacation soon.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?
