Here's the line i used, and it worked... "Hey its on me, since I dragged you out tonight"
Perhaps you might not use "drag", but just don't use "ask out" because that is too obvious. But either ways, this line works for both friends and girls. If you are getting to know someone, tell them up front that you asked for their time, so its up to you to pay. It's just polite, manners.

hey hey, when you talk about asians, it's mostly the chinese that are cheap. however, i have a japanese person in my class who is freaking tight as hell.
