It happens because women are not nearly as fixated on looks as men are. You will often see a gorgeous woman with an ugly or average-looking man, but you will only rarely find a gorgeous man with an ugly or average-looking woman.

I agree....a beutiful woman might use an 'ugly' guy if he's rich but I think most of the time it's becuase woman aren't as obsessed looks as men are. Women are obsessed with their own looks but not necessarily with their partners' looks. As long as she finds him attractive, she's happy. He doesn't have to be Brad Pitt or anything. Besides, very attractive women are usually hit on a lot by attractive guys who don't necessarily know how to treat them but an average-looking guy is usally nicer (since he's not used to getting attention from attractive women) so he'll treat her better.

I'm not so sure about this. I think if you have a good, solid relationship then you don't need to worry about this kind of stuff. I wouldn't date a guy just because I thought other girls wouldn't hit on him. I'd date him if I liked him and he treated me well. Sometimes I feel like people make too many rules when it comes to dating; a friend once told me to remember KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid!! The simpler you keep your relationship, the longer it'll last.

I agree, women are not that insecure or that shallow. We are more attracted to personality, rather than looks. I've dated very attractive and unattractive, so it had nothing to do with girls hitting on them......I found girls hit on the unattractive ones as well, but maybe not with the same frequency.

You're right....looks do matter but looks are extremely subjective, don't you think so? I might find a guy to be insanely cute while another girl would think he's disgusting. I think when you find someone you're truly interested in, they automatically seem attractive (even if others don't find them to be attractive). When you're with the right person, the attraction and chemistry is automatically there. That's why you're together!! Personally, my interest is piqued by a guy who knows how to be a gentleman and who's there for me. Yes, that initial spark of attraction has to be there but again, aren't looks subjective? How else would you explain Beauty falling in love with Beast?!

True. But that is irrelevant to this discussion. We are not talking about attraction. Our discussion is focused on the physical and aesthetic quality of the body. For example, most women have an innate attraction for the penis but it doesn't negate the fact that many women find the look of the penis ugly.

I think she already answered your question: generally more than for women. There obviously not going to be a precise number but that doesn't mean most of us don't already know the double standard that exists.
