I'd always wanted to shoot for a hood piercing. I have had; eyebrow, navel, and nipples (I miss the nipples the most), centre labret and still have tongue, nose (most painful piercing ever), and lip.
I love my tongue ring, but have varied to giving some jobs with, and without. I rock a larger-than-average barbell, and am fortunate enough to have never needed to take it out (except during a surgery...).
I can't say I've ever noticed a difference, but I will say my tongue tends to get more involved with the piercing present.
