    Oh that game?

    Oh - nothin too big.

Just THE BEST national championship game in college football history.

The buildup to the game? Well, since you asked... both teams had been ranked #1 and #2 from the start of the season, and remained there throughout the ENTIRE season. This is unprecedented in this day and age. They finished #1 and #2, both the sole remaining undefeated teams at 12-0 each.

The hype for this game was HUGE. You have two titans meeting.. this is Godzilla vs King Kong. USC was riding a 34-0 winning streak including 2 straight national championships, going for an unprecedented back-to-back-to-back title. Texas was riding a 19 game winning streak including an AMAZING performance from their star QB Vince Young in the Rose Bowl last year for a comeback win against Michigan 38-37. And they had been just demolishing their opponents all year.

This game EXCEEDED all the hype and expectations... with Vince Young putting on probably the single most impressive performances in college football history (I know for me, personally, I've been watching football since I was 8 and what he did was the most impressive thing I've ever seen in a football game.. with all the pressure, the national audience, against a VERY good team, all his teammates and coaches counting on him..) capping it all off with the winning touchdown run with :19 seconds left in the game from 8 yards out on FOURTH DOWN AND FIVE (last down to try to get a first, basically if he doesn't get 5 yards - game over, they lose) and then running in for the two point conversion to seal the win for Texas 41-38 and their first National Championship in 30 years.

    So yeah, nothing TOO big...

Black, running QB's will never succeed in the NFL.

    What?

Lloyd, come on man... that was just dumb.

Sure they won't have the same success they did in college... but there have been PLENTY of successful "black" as well as "running QB's" in the NFL... and that EXTRA ability to scramble and take off for 30 yards makes them even more dangerous than someone who just stands back in the pocket every pass.

Donovan McNabb has been pretty damn successful. And it was his scrambling abilities, on top of his arm that got him there. I do agree that they need MORE than just the ability to run, otherwise they turn into receivers or somethin (like Nebraska Heisman winner Eric Crouch) Randall Cunningham had a decent career.

What about Steve Young? He was one of the first "running QB's" or does he not count since he's not "black", Lloyd?

Michael Vick has had a pretty good career so far, making it one game short of the Super Bowl.

The main reason Vince Young is so good is he has BOTH - he had the top QB efficiency passer rating this season. I think he will be very successful in the NFL.

I guarantee you any team would prefer a QB who can pass, with that added dimension of being able to take off and bust a long run over a QB who is immobile in the pocket. It causes hell for a defensive coordinator. You think PIT could have used the same scheme they did vs Peyton Manning vs Michael Vick? Hell no, pocket collapses - Vick cuts inside and takes off, makes a man miss and he's gone for 25 yards. Against teams like Indy and Cinci, if you put enough pressure on the QB, you can usually shut down their O. You can't do that vs running QB's, it creates a whole new defensive gameplan if the opposing QB can beat you with his arm AND his legs.

    No way.

First off, eventually all black running QB's decide all of a sudden that they want to be pocket passers like Marino. It happened with Kordell, it happend this year with McNabb and Vick.

AFter awhile, their bodies take a toll of being tackled all the time. Vick is done. He looked crappy this year. He and his convict of a brother should both be out of football next year.

He looked good, his TEAM looked crappy. Their defense was shit.

It's easier to stop a QB that is one-dimensional.

Put a spy on Vick and he's nothing. He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from 10 feet away. Christ, TAVS could throw better.

You say that as if one man can take him down... teams already do that and he still gets free. It's like saying "Stop Steve Smith and you can stop the Carolina offense" - it's not that easy.

And he's not THAT bad a passer. He's no Peyton Manning, but he's not as bad as everyone rags on him. His brother is a dumb little fvcker though.

Dude, he's awful! No touch, not accurate. Can throw hard, but if he misses the receiver by 10 yds., who cares. I'd almost rather have Tommy Maddox. Almost.

Ok you two.... I asked why EVERY THREAD turned into a debate! Not why we were TALKING about football!

And to just clarify again, I wasn't just talking about this thread!!!!! and both of you guys are now on my shit list!

And oops Lloyd, it looks like you won't have anywhere to stay while in your town for the Super Bowl!
