    me and my buddies thought that too...cuz one of my buddy's can cook very well. (he almost went to one of the two best culinary arts schools in the US.) so we went out to the nicest grocery in the area...got some meat...cooked it up nice...it wasn't the same.

    well...so we went the restaurant one day, sat at the bar, and asked the bartender where they get their meat. he yammers on a little bit and offers to have us talk to the chef. the chef comes out and chats with us. apparently, the way the beef industry works is...after they slaughter the cows, the meat is "graded"...and all the highest grade meat go up for sale to restaurants that want them. so all the nicest restaurants in the US buy it up. the crap restuarants like Outback or TGI Friday's buys up the next best meat. then there's consumer quality meat...the filth you guy at grocery stores.

    anyway...the meat that this restaurant gets is the top 2% or something graded meat in the country. the cows are free range, grain and grass fed, and are hormone and drug free. also, he said that good cuts are meat are aged. aging in controlled condition makes the meat better somehow...i forget how he said. the chef was cool as hell...and let us buy a couple ny strips off him at cost so we could go cook them ourselves.

    the difference was CRAZY. you can't beat quality meat...

    actually, so do i! i really like outback! it's all i can afford on a semi-regular basis. but man...once you try some prime+ graded meat that's like the top 1-2% in the country...you realize those crazy chefs aren't crazy!

    i haven't had the good stuff in a long time! hmmm...may have to take my gf to a really nice restaurant for valentines so i can get my grub on...

    That's fair Hotpants. I dont know about Grocery stores but I get some of the best meat I've ever had from Costco. You could always go to a Farmers Market and get fresh beef; often free-range or whatever ya call it. The best meat I've ever had, however, was served to me on a ranch owned by the president of the Colorado Beef Board back when I was on the CU Rodeo team.
